Toy is a poet, spoken word artist, and also a singer. Born and raised in Flint, MI, she was introduced to poetry and music at a young age. Toy also had gotten a full music scholarship when she graduated from Beecher H.S. where she studied for four years of choral. She matured in art and started to hone her skills in local open forums and open mics shows. She studied so many great artists by her having so much skill and stage presence. She began to work as a radio show host in July 2011, where she also began to interview celebrities, with her favorite being Kurtis Blow. She always admired his skill of words in the hip-hop genre. She also studied some great writers, inspiring her to write even more poetry and develop short stories. Toy also became an author in February 2014 with her book Honey Elixir which was well-received by her peers. She also publishes her words and poetry in many compilation books and magazines. She was featured in an international compilation book called World Healing in 2012 with her poem “Wake Up “. At this point, she felt it upon herself to use her talent to bring more awareness to social issues. Her poem garnered her to be published in other publications such as Poetry and Prose, Vertikal Life magazine, and many others. She obtained radio features because she wanted to do more than write. She wanted her words to be heard. Her features include The Artist Lounge, She Says He Says Radio and The Real Report. She also took her talents in protest in many local rallies in her community. She is also part of a poetic troupe called Nlistic Souldiers. A group of artists that uses the word art to express social injustice and to impart humanitarianism.
Toy also became a TV producer in the Summer of 2015. She worked for the TV Show Spoken Revelations. She obtained a Gospel Choice Award nomination in 2018 through her creativity and hard work. In 2022 her single “Play Your Guitar “was selected for the Figure of Speech Spoken Word compilation album. Toy’s single “RISE” has been a staple on many radio stations because of its positive message. Her song has hit #1 on local ReverbNation charts and is playing on many internet and FM stations. She is producing a film called A Hand to Heal, Never to Hurt. In 2023 Toy also recently dropped her first album Lady Toy: Regalness Of A Poet, now on all streaming platforms!
